About Kurt Connell

Kurt Connell is a native of Bennington Vermont, now residing on the North Shore.

He began painting with oils in 1972, starting with landscapes and eventually progressing into a more surrealistic representation of his subject matter, where figurative representation and distortion of space related with the life forces of Surrealism (sexual drive, time, death, love and self-preservation).   Each painting is reflective in nature and created through the spontaneous use of various forms and shapes.

In 1984-85, while attending Emily Carr College, Kurt experienced a sense of playfulness, which he incorporated into his work, making it less reflective in nature.  His current work is still brought about automatic renderings, and then refined to a colorful juxtaposition of imagery that lends a uniqueness and originality for each piece of work.  The love of nature, the outdoors and the impact of currents events can also be seen.

Kurt Connell has shown in both one-man and group shows in galleries and coffeehouses across the Lower Mainland and Wash. State. He is also a active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the North Shore Artist Guild.
